Amadeus Limited Series Coming Soon to Starz: Here’s When to Tune In
Sky’s limited series Amadeus will debut in the United States on Friday, May 8, airing on Starz.
Starz acquired the U.S. distribution rights to the drama in January through a partnership with NBCUniversal Global TV Distribution.
Based on Peter Shaffer’s award-winning 1979 play, the series is adapted by Joe Barton, known for his work on Black Doves and Giri/Haji. It features Will Sharpe as the musical prodigy Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Paul Bettany as his envious counterpart, court composer Salieri. Gabrielle Creevy portrays Mozart’s devoted wife, Constanze Weber.
The five-part drama unfolds in 18th Century Vienna, where 25-year-old Amadeus (Sharpe) seeks creative freedom amidst personal struggles. His path crosses with Constanze (Creevy) and the devout Salieri (Bettany), who becomes increasingly tormented by Mozart’s extraordinary talent. As Mozart grapples with his questionable reputation within a conservative court, Salieri’s professional envy evolves into a personal obsession over three decades, leading to a confession of murder and a desperate attempt to secure his legacy alongside Mozart’s.
The cast includes Rory Kinnear as Emperor Joseph, Lucy Cohu as Cecilia Weber, Jonathan Aris as Leopold Mozart, and several others. Amadeus is produced by Two Cities Television, part of STV Studios, in collaboration with Sky Studios. The executive production team consists of John Griffin, Rupert Lord, Megan Spanjian, and Paul Gilbert for Sky, along with Michael Jackson and Stephen Wright for Two Cities Television. Direction is led by Julian Farino (Giri/Haji) and Alice Seabright (Chloe, Sex Education), with Barton, Sharpe, Bettany, and Farino also holding executive producer roles. Seabright serves as co-executive producer. NBCUniversal Global TV Distribution manages international sales of the series for Sky.
