A Look at the 201 Films in the Running for This Year’s Best Picture Oscar
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced Thursday that 201 feature films have qualified for consideration for the 98th Academy Awards, scheduled for March 15 at the Beverly Hilton. The ceremony will see the return of host Conan O’Brien.
Nominations for all 24 categories will be unveiled on January 22, with voting for nominees taking place from January 12 to 16.
The Academy disclosed that a total of 317 films are eligible across all categories, having previously announced contenders for Best Documentary, Animated Feature, and International Feature Film in November.
To qualify for the general entry categories, feature films must be released in at least one of six major U.S. metropolitan areas—Los Angeles County, New York City, the San Francisco Bay Area, Chicago, Dallas-Fort Worth, and Atlanta—during the 2025 calendar year. Additionally, they must complete a minimum qualifying run of seven consecutive days in the same venue and must have a running time exceeding 40 minutes.
