Olivia Rodrigo Shares Heartfelt Moment Searching for Jack White’s Note Backstage at SNL
As Olivia Rodrigo prepares to take on dual roles this weekend on Saturday Night Live, she has received encouragement from fellow musician Jack White.
The three-time Grammy winner will make her hosting debut while performing for the third time as the musical guest on the NBC sketch comedy show. She shared that White left her an encouraging note in her dressing room.
“I love Jack White. He’s, like, my hero,” Rodrigo exclaimed during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. “He’s the coolest guy ever. Wonderful person. Always stands up for what’s right.”
White previously received his Five-Timers Club jacket after appearing as the musical guest on the April 4 episode, which was hosted by Jack Black.
Rodrigo recalled a recent phone conversation where she told White, “Oh my god, I’m gonna host SNL.” He replied, “I’m gonna leave a note in your dressing room.” Initially, she thought it was a joke. “I feel like I’d maybe said that to someone too but never done it,” she noted.
He later texted her, saying, “Look up! Keep your head up. You’re gonna find something.” Rodrigo described her search through the dressing room, saying she was “tearing apart the SNL dressing room,” even removing ceiling tiles, convinced he had left her something.
Eventually, the Sour artist discovered a flower with the note taped inside her closet, which read, “Kill it kid.”
Rodrigo, who was previously a musical guest on SNL in 2021 and 2023, is currently promoting her third studio album, You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love, set to debut on June 12. The album’s lead single, “Drop Dead,” was released last month.
Following Rodrigo’s SNL episode this weekend, Matt Damon and Will Ferrell are slated to close out Season 51 as the final two hosts, featuring musical guests Noah Kahan and Paul McCartney, respectively.
