Austin Amelio Joins FX’s "The Lowdown" for Season 2
Actor Austin Amelio, known for his roles in The Walking Dead and Hit Man, is set to join the recurring cast of FX’s acclaimed series The Lowdown for its second season. He joins previously announced cast members Betty Gilpin and Tommy Lee Jones.
Created by Sterlin Harjo, the first season of The Lowdown centers on Lee Raybon, portrayed by Ethan Hawke. Lee is a self-proclaimed Tulsa "truthstorian," driven by a relentless pursuit of truth, often leading him into perilous situations. The narrative portrays his commitment to exposing corruption and shedding light on the underbelly of his city.
In the inaugural season, Lee’s latest exposé on the influential Washberg family coincides with the mysterious suicide of Dale Washberg, played by Tim Blake Nelson. This event propels Lee into a deeper investigation into the circumstances surrounding Dale’s death.
The series also features performances from Keith David and guest stars including Kyle MacLachlan, Jeanne Tripplehorn, Ryan Kiera Armstrong, Michael “Killer Mike” Render, Kaniehtiio Horn, Tracy Letts, and Peter Dinklage, as well as the late Graham Greene.
Renewed for a second season in January, production is currently taking place in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The first season of The Lowdown was recognized as one of the 10 most outstanding TV programs of 2025 by the AFI Awards and has garnered widespread acclaim.
The series is produced by FX Productions, with Harjo serving as creator and executive producer alongside Garrett Basch, Hawke, Ryan Hawke, Duffy Boudreau, and Scott Teems. Harjo also wrote and directed various episodes in the first season, and all episodes are available for streaming on Hulu.
Amelio reunites with Ethan Hawke following their collaboration on the historical drama The Weight, which recently premiered at the Sundance Film Festival. He has also recently completed work on Ron Howard’s Alone at Dawn, featuring Adam Driver and Anne Hathaway, and starred in Damian McCarthy’s Hokum and Family Movie, both debuting at SXSW 2026. His latest project, Bunnylovr, will be released theatrically on April 10.
On television, Amelio is best recognized for his portrayal of Dwight in AMC’s The Walking Dead and Fear the Walking Dead, and he has made recent appearances in the HBO Original Spanish-language series When No One Sees Us. He is represented by UTA, Stride Management, and JSSK.
