The upcoming television adaptation of the iconic video game is a collaboration between Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios. The series is helmed by writer, showrunner, and executive producer Ronald D. Moore, known for his work on Outlander and For All Mankind.
Set against the backdrop of ancient mythology, God of War follows the journey of Kratos, portrayed by Ryan Hurst, and his 10-year-old son Atreus, played by Callum Vinson. Their quest is to spread the ashes of their wife and mother, Faye. Throughout their adventures, Kratos aims to teach Atreus how to navigate the challenges of being a god, while Atreus endeavors to guide Kratos on his path to humanity.
The ensemble cast also includes Teresa Palmer as Phoebe/Sif, Thor’s wife and goddess of family; Max Parker as Heimdall, the Watchman of Asgard; Ólafur Darri Ólafsson as Thor; Alastair Duncan reprising his role as Mimir from the video game series; and Jeff Gulka and Danny Woodburn as brothers Sindri and Brok. Recently, Ed Skrein was announced as Baldur.
The characters portrayed by the new cast members have distinct traits that enrich the narrative. Cunningham will take on the role of Modi, Sif and Thor’s middle child, known for his gentle nature and insatiable curiosity. Chapple will play Magni, the adventurous eldest son, who is seeking greater purpose beyond his life as an immortal. Miller will portray Gna, Odin’s Valkyrie commander, devoted to her duty. Austin will play Thrud, the youngest child, a curious and compassionate peacemaker within the family.
