BritBox President Takes on New Role at BBC Studios Streaming
Robert Schildhouse Promoted to Lead BBC Studios Streaming Operations
Robert Schildhouse, the President of BritBox International, has received a promotion to oversee multiple BBC Studios streaming platforms outside the UK. This strategic move aligns with BBC Studios’ expanding digital footprint.
Schildhouse, who took over leadership of BritBox from Reemah Sakaan two years ago, now assumes the role of CEO for the newly renamed BBC Studios Direct to Consumer division. This includes managing BritBox in North America and BBC Select.
Under Schildhouse’s guidance, BritBox has emerged as a vital platform, boosting funding for British productions. Notable projects credited to his oversight include The Other Bennet Sister, Blue Lights, and the upcoming remake of Tommy & Tuppence.
In addition to BritBox, Schildhouse will supervise BBC Select, which touts itself as the “third largest documentary streamer in the US,” primarily showcasing BBC documentaries.
BBC Studios’ leader, Tom Fussell, praised Schildhouse’s promotion, emphasizing it as a reflection of his leadership qualities and the significant potential for growth in North America. “Since BBC Studios acquired BritBox in 2024, the service has delivered fantastic results, driving significant revenue growth and building a highly loyal subscriber base,” Fussell stated.
In response to his promotion, Schildhouse remarked, “This has been an incredible time of growth for both BritBox and BBC Select, following a transformative few years for both our streaming businesses. I’m honored to step into this new role for BBC Studios and excited about what’s to come as we continue to build on our momentum and serve passionate fans of British storytelling.”
