Meghan Trainor is addressing the choice she and her husband, Daryl Sabara, made to welcome their third child via surrogate, following some backlash online.
In a statement to People posted on January 21, Trainor explained that surrogacy was not their “first choice” but ultimately became the best option. “We had endless conversations with our doctors on this journey, and this was the safest way for us to be able to continue growing our family,” she said.
Trainor further elaborated, “We are forever grateful for that option. I want people to know that surrogacy is just another beautiful way to build a family. It’s not something to whisper about or judge. It’s rooted in trust, science, love, and teamwork.”
The musician announced the arrival of her daughter, Mikey Moon, by sharing a photo of herself holding the newborn on Instagram. While many friends and fans extended their congratulations, Trainor also faced negativity online, with some making unfounded claims that the decision to use a surrogate was motivated by a desire to avoid weight gain during pregnancy.
In her Instagram post on January 20, Trainor expressed gratitude, stating, “Our baby girl Mikey Moon Trainor has finally made it to the world thanks to our incredible, superwoman surrogate. We are forever grateful to all the doctors, nurses, teams who made this dream possible. We had endless conversations with our doctors in this journey, and this was the safest way for us to be able to continue growing our family.”
Trainor and the Spy Kids star are already parents to two sons, four-year-old Riley and two-year-old Barry. In her book, Dear Future Mama, she detailed the harrowing experience of having Riley rushed to the NICU immediately after birth.
In her statement to People, Trainor concluded, “Every family’s journey looks different, and all of them are extremely valid.”
