Taylor Swift is revealing the story behind her acclaimed Eras Tour in a new docuseries.
The singer-songwriter achieved a remarkable feat with her 21-month-long global tour, which grossed over $2 billion in ticket sales—more than double that of any other concert tour in history, according to reports following her final performance in December 2024. A year later, fans can revisit the magic through her Disney+ docuseries, The End of an Era.
“My whole life I’ve been trying to study how you can not only entertain people but truly transport them from their problems and stresses,” Swift said during a December 2025 appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. “How do you create a sense of escape?”
She noted the profound impact her performances had when she discovered that fans experienced “post-concert amnesia” and “joy blackouts.” Swift mentioned that she and her crew often had “out of control, out of body experiences” while performing.
As the first two episodes premiered on December 12, Swift delved into the significant highs and lows of her Eras Tour.
Here are seven highlights from Taylor Swift’s The End of an Era so far.
Swift described talking to Kelce as “a vitamin drip”

In an intimate moment, Swift shared insights about her relationship with fiancé Travis Kelce during a phone conversation as she traveled to a sold-out show in London. Although she expressed a longing for his presence, she found comfort in their conversation.
“Thanks for making my life better,” Kelce told Swift, to which she replied, “I know … some people get a vitamin drip. I got this conversation.”
The Eras Tour was inspired by two “unpleasant” events

Swift revealed that two significant events inspired the Eras Tour, both stemming from negative experiences. “There were two main factors that culminated in the Eras tour,” she explained. “Both of them are unpleasant.”
The first was the sale of her first six albums, which she described as having been “sold out from under” her, prompting her to re-record her music. The second was the COVID-19 pandemic, which led her to cling to songwriting as a creative lifeline.
“Folklore came out three or four months into the pandemic, and we released Evermore four months later,” Swift recalled. “I hadn’t toured in five years, and the fans had created such demand for it.”
Swift acknowledged dodging a “massacre situation” in Vienna

In the docuseries, Swift discussed the emotional aftermath of the August 2024 terror plot targeting her Vienna concert, which was reportedly intended to harm thousands of fans. Three men were arrested in connection with the plot, prompting Swift to cancel three shows in Austria.
Reflecting on the experience, Swift said it felt as if she was “skating on thin ice” ahead of her first concert in London following the threat. “We’ve had a series of very violent, scary things happen to the tour,” she explained. “We dodged, like, a massacre situation. So I’ve just been kind of all over the place … afraid that something’s gonna happen to your fans at any moment.” Swift confided in her mother about feeling “twitchy and fidgety” before performing, wanting to shield her fans from her own nerves.

Swift also reflected on a tragic event during the tour involving the stabbing of three young girls at a Taylor Swift-themed event in Liverpool. “There was this horrible attack in Liverpool at a Taylor Swift-themed dance party, and it was little kids,” she tearfully recounted. “I have a hard time explaining it.”
The incident on July 29, 2024, resulted in the deaths of 7-year-old Elsie Dot Stancombe, 9-year-old Alice da Silva Aguiar, and 6-year-old Bebe King. Swift shared her experience of meeting the victims’ families before her subsequent shows in London, stating, “I’m gonna meet some of these families tonight and put on a pop concert, you know? I’m not gonna do this. I’m gonna be smiling. So any of this gets out of the way before you ever go on stage.”
In a vulnerable moment, Swift broke down in her dressing room after speaking with one of the families. Her mother, Andrea, comforted her, saying, “I know you helped them. I know it doesn’t seem like it, but I know you helped them.”
Swift gave her backup dancers six-figure bonuses

In the second episode of The End of an Era, Swift surprised her backup dancers with six-figure bonus checks, prompting an emotional response from the team. Dancer Kameron Saunders read aloud a heartfelt note from Swift that accompanied the checks.
“Dearest Kam, we’ve traveled the world like we set out to do, we’ve dazzled the crowds, but we’ve missed family, too,” he recited. “My gratitude doesn’t come from a bank, but here’s [bleeped out] dollars just to say thanks.”
Reports confirmed that Swift distributed a total of $197 million in bonuses to everyone involved in her tour.
She joked about having “a mental breakdown” while singing one particular song

While rehearsing a segment of her tour, Swift humorously noted her potential struggle with one song: “Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me?” After singing a few lines, she joked about having “a mental breakdown,” adding that it would be “so fun.”
Swift previously discussed the song’s context during Amazon Music’s track-by-track experience, revealing that it stemmed from her “bitterness” over how society treats artists.
“What do we do to our writers, and our artists, and our creatives? We put them through hell,” she remarked. “We watch what they create, then we judge it. We love to watch artists in pain, often to the point where I think sometimes as a society we provoke that pain and we just watch what happens.”
Swift gave her crew an emotional speech before her final show

Before her final concert in Vancouver, Swift gathered her crew for an inspiring pep talk that brought many to tears. She reminisced about their collective journey, acknowledging the challenges they faced in pursuing their artistic dreams.
“I think about the moment that you decided that dancing was your calling and the moment that you first saw a band and thought, ‘Man, I wanna save up for an instrument,'” Swift shared. “Every single one of us has picked professions that, categorically, people often tell you you shouldn’t pursue.”
She continued, acknowledging the obstacles her team faced: “I see you getting rejected, not getting the job, not getting the part, not getting the solo. I’ll see those doors that were shut and the windows you pried open.” Swift expressed her belief that the tour’s success was not merely a result of luck, but rather their collective effort. “You put the pieces where they are. This is the biggest challenge any of us have ever done. Tonight, we complete that challenge.”
