Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein to Direct Animated Venom Movie for Sony
Details about the plot of the upcoming film in the Venom franchise remain undisclosed, and as of now, no writer has been attached to the project. However, producers Amy Pascal, Avi Arad, and Matt Tolmach are expected to return, having previously collaborated on the live-action Venom films. Additionally, Tom Hardy, who stars in the series, is anticipated to play a role in the new installment.
Launching with the 2018 release of Venom, directed by Ruben Fleischer, the franchise follows Eddie Brock, an investigative journalist who becomes an adversary to Spider-Man after an alien symbiote fuses with him. This character, born from the creativity of writer Bill Michelinie and artist Todd McFarlane, first debuted in 1988’s Amazing Spider-Man No. 300. Prior to Hardy’s portrayal, Venom appeared on screen in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 3, featuring Topher Grace in the role.
Among Sony’s standalone Spider-Man projects focused on villain characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), Venom stands out as the most successful. The first film achieved over $856 million in global box office receipts, paving the way for sequels, Venom: Let There Be Carnage and Venom: The Last Dance, released in 2021 and 2024, respectively.
