What You Need to Know About the Upcoming ‘The Nightingale’ Movie: Release Date, Cast, and More
Kristin Hannah’s acclaimed historical fiction novel, The Nightingale, is set to be adapted into a film, finally moving forward after delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Originally initiated before the pandemic, the project stalled but now has a confirmed theatrical release date and an expanding cast. TriStar has announced that the film will debut on February 12, 2027.

Sisters Dakota and Elle Fanning are set to star as sisters Vianne and Isabelle. The duo has been attached to both star and produce since the film adaptation began gaining momentum in 2019.

Michael Morris will direct the film, with a script penned by Dana Stevens, known for The Woman King. Elizabeth Cantillon will produce through The Cantillon Company, alongside the Fanning sisters and Brittany Kahan Ward from Lewellen Pictures, as well as Reese Witherspoon and Lauren Neustadter from Hello Sunshine. Notably, The Nightingale was selected for Reese’s Book Club in March 2023. Nicole Brown and Shary Shirazi are overseeing the project for TriStar Pictures.
TriStar originally acquired the film rights in 2015, with Ann Peacock as the initial writer. Subsequent iterations involved writer-director Michelle MacLaren and co-writer John Sayles, with the Fanning sisters initially set to star in a version directed by Mélanie Laurent. However, when the COVID-19 pandemic caused delays, Laurent shifted her focus to other projects.
