What We Know About the Heartstopper Movie So Far
Heartstopper Set to Conclude with Film Adaptation
Heartstopper will return to wrap up the love story of Charlie Spring, portrayed by Joe Locke, and Nick Nelson, played by Kit Connor. The announcement was made on April 22, 2022, coinciding with the third anniversary of the first season’s release, revealing that the series’ conclusion will take the form of a film.
Details surrounding the upcoming film adaptation remain limited. No specific release date has been announced yet.
The project began production in July 2025, and both Locke and author Alice Oseman shared their farewells on social media. The film’s clapboard suggests the title will be Heartstopper Forever.
The film will be directed by Wash Westmoreland, with Locke and Connor serving as executive producers alongside Oseman and several others involved in the first three seasons.
According to Oseman, the movie will incorporate elements from the sixth and final book in the graphic novel series, as well as the Nick and Charlie novella. The narrative will begin with the couple at their closest as Nick prepares for university and Charlie seeks independence. However, the reality of a long-distance relationship presents new challenges that test their bond. As doubts arise, their relationship faces its most significant challenges yet, mirroring the experiences of their friends as they navigate love and growth.
The final graphic novel in the Heartstopper series is set for release on July 2, 2026. A teaser for the concluding story indicates ongoing developments in Nick and Charlie’s lives: “Everyone in school knows Nick and Charlie. Everyone knows they’re going to be together forever. But Charlie’s busy with his bid to become head boy. And while Nick is preparing to leave for uni, he’s starting to wonder who he’ll be… without Charlie.”
In the Season 3 finale, Nick and Charlie found their way back to each other at a concert after Nick visited colleges with their friends. The pair faced personal struggles, including Charlie’s challenges with OCD and eating disorders, strengthening their relationship. As college approaches, the uncertainties of their future together linger, raising questions about whether first loves can truly last forever.
