What We Know About the ‘Fourth Wing’ TV Show So Far
Rebecca Yarros’ novel Fourth Wing, which captivated readers upon its release in May 2023, has been optioned for a television adaptation. This announcement coincided with the upcoming release of the second installment in The Empyrean series, titled Iron Flame, set to debut in November 2023.
Though the adaptation is still in its early stages, there have been significant developments, most notably the project’s official series order granted in May 2026.
Who is behind the adaptation of Fourth Wing into a show?
Amazon MGM Studios has secured the rights to the first book in Yarros’ The Empyrean series. The adaptation will be produced by Michael B. Jordan’s Outlier Society in partnership with Lisa Joy’s Kilter Films and Premediated Productions. Joy is also serving as an executive producer and will direct the pilot episode.
Does the Fourth Wing TV series have a showrunner yet?
Moira Walley-Beckett (Breaking Bad, Anne with an E) was initially appointed as the showrunner, but Agatha All Along and WandaVision creator Jac Schaeffer has since signed a deal with Amazon MGM Studios and entered discussions to take on the roles of writer, executive producer, and showrunner.
What is Fourth Wing about?
The narrative of Fourth Wing centers on twenty-year-old Violet Sorrengail, who is compelled to leave her life as a Scribe by her mother, a General in the military of Navarre, to become a dragon rider. She faces a grueling initiation at Basgiath War College, which employs a “Graduate or Die” method for training aspiring riders.
In the story, Violet initially seeks support from her old friend Dain Aetos upon entering Basgiath, but the enigmatic Xaden Riorson also captures her attention. Notably, Violet has Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS), a condition that affects the body’s connective tissue, shared by the author herself, Rebecca Yarros.
Is Fourth Wing a series?
Yes, the saga continues with Iron Flame, which was released in the same year as Fourth Wing. The series is planned to span five books, with the third installment, Onyx Storm, scheduled for release on January 21, 2025. Additionally, Yarros has teased a potential novella to be published before the fourth book in the series.
