Weekend Closure Alert: Northbound I-5 in Burbank
Burbank I-5 Northbound Closure Scheduled for Weekend Repairs
Traffic on northbound Interstate 5 in Burbank will face significant interruptions this weekend due to scheduled pavement repairs. The closure will begin Friday night, with limited access extending until Monday morning.
The northbound lanes of the highway will be partially or completely closed between Empire Avenue and Buena Vista Street from 10 p.m. on Friday until 5 a.m. on Monday. Additionally, the westbound connector from State Route 134 to northbound I-5 will also be closed during this period.
Drivers should anticipate the following closures from 10 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Monday:
- Up to four left lanes on northbound I-5 between Empire Avenue/San Fernando Boulevard and Buena Vista Street.
- Westbound SR-134 connector to northbound I-5.
- Westbound SR-134 on-ramp at San Fernando Road/Fairmont Avenue.
- Northbound I-5 on-ramp at Burbank Boulevard.
- Northbound I-5 on- and off-ramps at Empire Avenue/San Fernando Boulevard.
- Northbound I-5 on- and off-ramps at Buena Vista Street.
From 1 a.m. to 5 a.m. on Saturday, the following additional closures will take place:
- Northbound I-5 between Empire Avenue/San Fernando Boulevard and Buena Vista Street.
- Westbound SR-134 connector to northbound I-5.
- Westbound SR-134 on-ramp at San Fernando Road/Fairmont Avenue.
- Northbound I-5 on-ramp at Burbank Boulevard.
- Northbound I-5 on- and off-ramps at Empire Avenue/San Fernando Boulevard and Buena Vista Street.
- Northbound I-5 on-ramps at westbound and eastbound Alameda Avenue, as well as at Orange Grove Avenue.
Similar closures will be in effect from 1 a.m. to 5 a.m. on Monday.
During the full closure periods, traffic will be detoured. Nearby residents and businesses might experience elevated noise, vibrations, and dust associated with construction activities.
This weekend’s work marks the third of six extended weekend closures planned through spring 2026, as part of a comprehensive effort to enhance I-5’s infrastructure. The overall project, which aims to replace damaged pavement between Empire Avenue and Cohasset Street, is expected to conclude by summer 2027 at a cost of $23.2 million. Security Paving Company Inc. is overseeing the construction efforts.
