Weekend Closure Ahead: What to Know About Topanga Canyon Boulevard
Topanga Canyon Boulevard Closure for Infrastructure Upgrades
A critical 3.6-mile section of Topanga Canyon Boulevard, stretching from Pacific Coast Highway to Grand View Drive, is closed as crews commence a 55-hour project to install an underground 84-inch pipe. The closure began just after midnight on Saturday and is expected to last until 7 a.m. on Monday.
Caltrans reported that this area has experienced nightly closures due to ongoing repairs stemming from damage caused by the Palisades Fire and winter storms. Officials anticipate that these repair efforts will be completed by summer.
The newly installed pipe will run underneath and perpendicular to the roadway. Caltrans stated that this infrastructure is intended to enhance the capacity for handling water and mud during rainstorms, thereby mitigating future debris flows onto the highway.
Motorists heading south on Topanga Canyon are advised to reroute via the Ventura (101) Freeway southbound to the San Diego (405) Freeway, then west on the Santa Monica (10) Freeway to access PCH. For those traveling north, the same detour can be undertaken in reverse.
Despite the closure, Topanga Canyon remains accessible between Grand View Drive and the 101 Freeway, ensuring continued access for local residents and businesses.
