Ice Cube and War of the Worlds Dominate Razzie Awards

Ice Cube has emerged as a prominent figure at the 46th Razzie Awards, taking home the title of Worst Actor. His role in the Amazon Prime Video adaptation of H.G. Wells’ classic novel, War of the Worlds, was also recognized with multiple "awards," including Worst Picture, Worst Director, and Worst Screenplay, leaving a significant mark on this year’s ceremony.

The film garnered a total of six nominations, nearly sweeping the categories, and only fell short in the category for Worst Screen Combo, which was awarded to All Seven Dwarfs from Disney’s live-action Snow White. The ensemble of dwarf actors was also named Worst Supporting Actor collectively.

Ice Cube filmed his scenes for War of the Worlds during the COVID-19 lockdown, working in isolation from director Rich Lee and other cast members. Reflecting on the unique filming circumstances, he noted last summer, “That’s why it’s only the computer screen. But really, if sh*t went down, everybody would only have their screen to look at.”

In addition to Ice Cube’s recognition, Rebel Wilson received Worst Actress for her role in Bride Hard, while Scarlet Rose Stallone was named Worst Supporting Actress for Gunslingers. Further bucking the trend of traditional film accolades, the Razzie Redeemer Award was given to Kate Hudson for her performance in Song Sung Blue, following a series of previous nominations for less favorable roles.
