Prime Video recently hinted at new additions to Fallout, including Justin Theroux, Kumail Nanjiani, and Macaulay Culkin. However, a surprise awaited viewers in episode three of the apocalyptic series: Jon Gries made a surprising appearance alongside Walton Goggins, marking a delightful reunion for fans of The White Lotus.
Gries, 68, portrays Biff, a soldier from the New California Republic. Goggins’ character, the Ghoul, encounters Biff on his journey to the Legion’s camp, where Lucy (Ella Purnell) has been taken. Stationed at an abandoned outpost with Rodriguez (Barbara Eve Harris), Biff shares that they haven’t had contact with the NCR in more than a decade.
Though their interaction is brief, it follows their work together on season 3 of creator Mike White’s acclaimed HBO series. In the Thailand setting, Gries reprised his role as Greg Hunt, while Goggins took on the character of Rick Hatchett.

In a conversation with PEOPLE about season 2 of Fallout, Goggins and showrunner Geneva Robertson-Dworet reflected on the special appearance.
“I’ve known Jon for a long time, and there was an opportunity for someone of his type to participate in this story,” Goggins noted, calling Gries “the perfect person for it.”
Robertson-Dworet echoed his sentiments, stating, “He is the sweetest man and I think he really brought that to the role.” She explained that his profound empathy was crucial for the character. “You sort of adore him instantly, and that’s what we needed for that role in the NCR,” she said.
“We were honored to have him,” she added.

For Goggins, this role provided another chance to bond with Gries, as the filming of Fallout season 2 occurred after The White Lotus was completed, which was shot in Thailand.
“We got to spend some time out in the desert together,” Goggins remarked, joking about the “very different” dynamic on set, but noting it was “still hot.”
Looking ahead to season 2, Goggins teased the progression of his character’s journey, saying he aids Lucy as they continue their “post-apocalyptic road trip.” He mentioned that the storyline picks up exactly where the previous season left off, emphasizing a new perspective as Goggins’ character begins to see Lucy “as a human being for the first time.”
Goggins elaborated on their relationship, stating he and Purnell engaged in in-depth discussions about how the bond between two people evolves over days of travel.
New episodes of Fallout season 2 will be released on Wednesdays until the finale on February 4, 2026.
