Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, were tragically killed in their Los Angeles home on December 14. Their daughter, Romy, was the first to find her father’s body after being alerted by a massage therapist who was unable to enter the property. Paramedics confirmed their findings shortly after their arrival at approximately 3:30 p.m.
The Los Angeles Fire Department responded to the scene, but both victims were pronounced dead at the location. Shortly thereafter, reports surfaced that their son Nick was under investigation in connection with the deaths. He was subsequently taken into custody and charged with two counts of first-degree murder, with a special allegation of using a knife. Nick appeared in court on December 17, but his arraignment has been postponed until January 2026.
The family expressed their sorrow in a statement, calling the deaths “tragic” and requesting privacy during this difficult time. Renowned figures from the entertainment industry, including Billy Crystal and Larry David, visited the Reiner home to pay their respects.
Rob and Michele, who married in 1989, also had two other children, son Jake and daughter Tracy, whom Rob adopted during his first marriage to Penny Marshall. Following the shocking news, Romy and Jake released a statement expressing profound grief, stating, “Words cannot even begin to describe the unimaginable pain we are experiencing every moment of the day. The horrific and devastating loss of our parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, is something that no one should ever experience. They weren’t just our parents; they were our best friends.”
The investigation continues as authorities delve deeper into the circumstances surrounding the couple’s deaths.

The couple’s tragic passing has left the Reiner family devastated. They stated, “It is with profound sorrow that we announce the tragic passing of Michele and Rob Reiner. We are heartbroken by this sudden loss, and we ask for privacy during this unbelievably difficult time.”
Their daughter Romy found Rob, and paramedics were called around 3:30 p.m.

Romy arrived at the Reiner home after a massage therapist was unable to gain entry and subsequently discovered her father’s body. Reports indicate she fled the scene upon her discovery and learned from paramedics that her mother had also perished.
Romy’s stepsister, Tracy, expressed her shock at the news, sharing, “I came from the greatest family ever. I don’t know what to say. I’m in shock.” Tracy was adopted by Rob during his first marriage to the late Penny Marshall.

Following the paramedics’ arrival, Los Angeles authorities initiated an investigation into the deaths, suspected homicides. Sources close to the family indicated that Nick was being scrutinized in connection with his parents’ deaths.
Nick has previously spoken about his struggles with addiction, sharing that he had undergone treatment at various facilities starting at the age of 15. His mother and father had reportedly tried various methods to assist him, but he struggled to find stability.

On December 13, Rob and his family attended a holiday party hosted by Conan O’Brien. Sources indicated that tension escalated into a significant argument between Nick and Rob during the event.
Reports suggest that Nick exhibited erratic behavior, including repeatedly asking other partygoers if they were famous.

Nick was arrested near the University of Southern California campus hours after the discovery of his parents’ bodies. He faces two counts of first-degree murder with a special allegation of using a knife. During his brief court appearance on December 17, he was seen in a suicide prevention smock. His arraignment has been rescheduled for January 7, and he is currently being held without bail.
Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman indicated that if convicted, Nick could face life in prison without the possibility of parole or even the death penalty. Prominent criminal defense attorney Alan Jackson has been retained to represent him, stating that there are “very complex and serious issues” associated with the case that need thorough examination.
