UCLA Celebrates an Impressive 20-Game Winning Streak
UCLA Women’s Basketball Extends Winning Streak to 20
The No. 2 UCLA women’s basketball team secured a commanding victory over Washington, winning 82-67 on Thursday night. This victory not only extends the Bruin’s win streak to 20 games but also clinches the No. 1 seed in the upcoming Big Ten tournament and guarantees at least a share of the conference’s regular season title.
UCLA center Lauren Betts reflected on the team’s performance, stating, “It shows how hard we are working throughout the season, and we’re just going to have to continue to try to get better. Obviously, it’s great, but we have bigger things that we’re looking forward to, so we’re just going to continue to keep our heads down.”
This marks the Bruins’ first regular season conference championship since the 1998-99 season, when they shared the title in the Pac-10. UCLA coach Cori Close praised her players for their achievements, noting, “To have a couple of alumni that were on that team here today, that’s really special, and I really want to compliment these guys for always having a sense of humility. We walk on the shoulders of the people that came before us, and we’re just really thankful to be in the position we’re in, and in the number one net conference in the country for women’s basketball.”
Betts led the scoring with a game-high 23 points, part of a team effort that saw five Bruins finish in double figures. For Washington, freshman Brynn McGaughy recorded her second-highest career total with 19 points, while Avery Howell contributed 17 points and a team-leading seven rebounds.
USC Women’s Basketball Team Fends Off Injury Scare
USC’s freshman standout Jazzy Davidson continued to shine, leading the women’s basketball team to a 66-59 victory over Wisconsin on Thursday night. Throughout her debut season, Davidson has been a pivotal player, excelling in multiple facets of the game, including scoring and rebounding.
However, the game took a concerning turn when Davidson landed awkwardly in the final minutes, drawing gasps from the crowd at the Galen Center. The moment echoed memories of a previous injury to Trojan superstar JuJu Watkins. Teammates quickly assisted Davidson off the court, raising alarm among fans.
USC coach Lindsay Gottlieb allayed those fears in the postgame news conference, sharing, “Based on the 30 texts I’ve gotten, Jazzy is OK.” It was ultimately confirmed that she was only suffering from cramps.

Mookie Betts Eager for a Resilient Season
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts has high expectations for Mookie Betts this season, emphasizing that he is likely to be in the MVP conversation. Following a difficult previous season marked by health issues and personal struggles, Betts is looking forward to a more promising start this year, benefiting from a standard spring training timetable.
“I just know that, being 33 now, I don’t have to hurry up and get here, and be ready to play from day one. So, I can just kind of embrace that,” Betts said.
Genesis Invitational Suspended by Rain
The Genesis Invitational faced disruptions as heavy rain halted play on Thursday. However, Jacob Bridgeman, unfazed by the weather, shot a five-under-par 66, sharing the clubhouse lead with Rory McIlroy. Bridgeman’s strong performance included four birdies on the back nine.
“I love it!” he stated after his round, looking forward to continuing in the tournament once play resumes.
