Tribeca Festival Welcomes Social Media Creators at Its 25th Anniversary in 2026
The Tribeca Festival is set to celebrate its 25th anniversary next June with an expanded official program that includes social media creators. This initiative makes Tribeca the first major film festival to showcase videos widely popular on TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube alongside traditional film offerings.
Organizers announced the changes on Thursday, emphasizing a commitment to evolving storytelling methods. The festival has a history of embracing new platforms, highlighting advancements in transmedia, gaming, and interactive work.
The NOW strand, which premiered in 2014, has been home to notable projects including Lena Waithe’s Hello Cupid, Shaina Feinberg’s Dinette, and Barret O’Brien and Mark Duplass’ The Long Long Night. Elvira Lind’s 2020 selection, The Letter Room, received an Oscar nomination for Best Live Action Short the following year. Katja Blichfeld and Ben Sinclair’s work, originally created for Vevo before moving to HBO, has also been featured in the NOW section.
Historically, Tribeca has integrated diverse media formats into its presentations, having showcased mobile filmmaking as early as 2005 with Nokia, and partnered with Maker Studios in 2012 to elevate YouTube-native series, just before its acquisition by Disney. The festival has also collaborated with platforms like Vine and Snapchat throughout the 2010s.

“Storytelling is evolving—and so is Tribeca,” remarked Jane Rosenthal, co-founder of Tribeca Enterprises. “For 25 years, we’ve been drawn to new forms of creative expression and the artists pushing those boundaries. Today’s creators are among the most inventive storytellers working in any medium. Expanding Tribeca NOW honors how audiences experience stories today—on every screen, in every form. That spirit of reinvention is what Tribeca was built on.”
Submissions for the festival are due by February 5 and will be assessed with a holistic approach, focusing on both individual standout pieces and the creators’ overall storytelling voice.
Creators have previously found a home at Tribeca, which launched a dedicated vertical in 2024 in partnership with Whalar Group. The UpNext Creators initiative debuted in-person in 2025, featuring 12 standout creators who participated in red carpet events and screenings.
“Tribeca’s interdisciplinary programming has always celebrated the best in cinematic storytelling across all platforms, injecting fresh creative voices into the independent ecosystem wherever they are found,” said Cara Cusumano, Tribeca Festival Director and SVP of Programming. “This evolution of our signature NOW program will connect breakout digital storytellers with new audiences, as well as with the traditional film industry, broader creative community, and potential future collaborators, just as we have done for filmmakers and artists over the past 25 years.”
