Tracy Spiridakos Shares Why the ‘Anna Pigeon’ Role is the Ideal Next Step After ‘Chicago P.D.’—A Conversation
Tracy Spiridakos Embarks on a New Journey in USA Network’s Anna Pigeon
Tracy Spiridakos is trading the urban backdrop of Chicago for the serene landscapes of rural Washington, stepping into the role of Anna Pigeon in the upcoming USA Network series. This transition comes after her successful years portraying Detective Hailey Upton on NBC’s Chicago P.D.
Anna Pigeon, based on Nevada Barr’s best-selling novels and created by Morwyn Brebner, centers on Anna, a former city dweller who becomes a park ranger following a significant personal loss. As she navigates her grief, Anna becomes deeply involved in solving crimes within national parks, demonstrating her determination to confront challenges head-on.
Spiridakos is joined by a talented cast, including Ronnie Rowe Jr. as FBI Agent Frederick Stanton, whose calm demeanor balances Anna’s spirited nature, and Paulina Alexis as Zoey Bear Child, a young ranger under Anna’s mentorship. The recurring cast features Tricia Helfer as Molly Pigeon, Anna’s older sister; Kim Coates as Jeremiah Paulson, a local landowner; and Ryan Northcott as Anna’s boss, Geoff Miller.
Lea Thompson serves as an executive producer and director for the series, which is being introduced to international buyers by Cineflix Rights at the London TV Screenings in February.
In a recent interview, Spiridakos expressed her enthusiasm for the role, saying, “I read the pilot and just completely fell in love with Anna. She has grit and a sense of humor, making her different yet similar to Upton.”
When discussing her preparation for horse riding scenes, Spiridakos revealed, “I learned a little bit when I was working on Revolution, but nothing like what I experienced with this show. My horse’s name is Joker, and I absolutely fell in love with him.”
The series’ pilot adapts the first chapter of Barr’s Anna Pigeon series, "Track of the Cat," revealing Anna’s journey to uncover the mystery of a missing ranger. Spiridakos hopes that viewers will become immersed in the stunning wilderness, feeling the emotional depth of the characters and their light-hearted moments amid serious themes.
Delving into Anna’s struggles with grief, Spiridakos explained, “It’s about finding your footing again after a significant loss. I identify with that, especially given my own experiences.”
Spiridakos highlighted the importance of the relationship between Anna and her sister Molly, calling her sister a pillar of strength and a constant source of support amidst her challenges.
Regarding her co-stars, she praised Rowe, noting that Frederick Stanton challenges Anna in unique ways, a dynamic that adds depth to their investigations. She also described Coates, who plays the wealthy landowner Jeremiah Paulson, as “incredible,” quickly establishing a complicated relationship with Anna.
Reflecting on her transition from Chicago P.D., Spiridakos noted, “I felt shy when I first arrived on set. However, it quickly transformed into a supportive and friendly environment.”
As she embraces this new role, Spiridakos expressed a strong affinity for Anna Pigeon, stating, “I hope audiences connect with her as much as I have. There’s so much more to uncover, and I would love to play her for a long time.”
