Tow Truck Seen Taking Vehicle in Rancho Cucamonga
Tow Truck Caught Stealing Vehicle in Rancho Cucamonga
RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif. – A tow truck was filmed stealing a vehicle from a residential neighborhood, raising concerns about a string of similar crimes in the area.
Surveillance footage reveals an unmarked tow truck maneuvering behind a parked pickup truck on a quiet street. Equipped with a self-loading lift, the thief was able to flee the scene in under a minute, illustrating a new tactic employed by car thieves.
This incident highlights a troubling trend; the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department has reported multiple instances of vehicles being stolen by tow trucks. Unlike traditional predatory towing practices—where vehicles are often towed for being parked illegally or following an accident—this thief provided no notification to the vehicle’s owner.
"I was amazed that they could do it that fast," said Tom, a neighbor of the vehicle’s owner. He noted that the thief never even exited the truck to secure the target vehicle.
Tom added, "Now we’re seeing it on Facebook. Another one just occurred a few nights ago in Rancho Cucamonga." His observations echo sentiments shared on social media, where residents are discussing similar thefts throughout the Inland Empire and parts of Los Angeles County.
Due to the ongoing investigations, the sheriff’s department has not disclosed details about the suspect(s) in these thefts. Community members with any information are encouraged to reach out to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.
