Tom Morello Comments on Kid Rock’s Sparse Audience Performance for Turning Point USA
Tom Morello, known for his outspoken views on political issues, recently displayed a rare instance of sarcasm regarding Kid Rock’s performance for a small audience at a conservative event. The performance took place on the Turning Point USA stage, which aimed to present an alternative to the Super Bowl halftime show featuring Bad Bunny.
On Wednesday, February 11, Morello shared a clip on X, showcasing Kid Rock rapping in front of a sparse crowd. Despite being one of the event’s headliners, he prompted audience members to wave their arms, but few responded. Morello quipped, “America is finally great again,” in reference to President Donald Trump’s well-known slogan, “Make America Great Again.”
Billboard has reached out to Kid Rock and Turning Point USA for comments regarding the performance. There is uncertainty about whether the recently circulated video was captured during a live taping of the event, which also included artists such as Brantley Gilbert, Lee Brice, and Gabby Barrett, or if it was merely a rehearsal. Just a day before Morello’s post, Kid Rock confirmed that the showcase was pre-taped rather than live and addressed rumors of lip-synching during his act.
In a video shared on his social media, Kid Rock emphatically dismissed the lip-synching allegations, stating, “If I was ever going to lip-synch, which I wouldn’t, [‘Bawitdaba’] would be the last song I would ever … do it to.” He criticized those amplifying misinformation online, mentioning “fake news media” and “crazy libt—ds.”
Beyond his jabs at Kid Rock, Morello expressed support for Bad Bunny’s groundbreaking Super Bowl performance by resharing several posts that criticized the alternative halftime show. Among these was a statement from country artist Zach Bryan, who labeled the event as “embarrassing” and a display of adults throwing “tempered tantrums.”
Morello was also in attendance at the Super Bowl in Santa Clara, California, on February 8, where he showcased an “ICE Out” banner in protest of immigration enforcement activities in the U.S. His activism followed an incident in January when ICE officers shot two civilians in Minneapolis, prompting him to organize a benefit concert to support the community.
