The recent Met Gala served as a poignant occasion, especially for Tina Knowles, the mother of Grammy award winners Beyoncé and Solange.
Knowles appeared on the *Today* show on Tuesday, May 5, to discuss her bestselling memoir, *Matriarch*. Before delving into the book’s content, she reflected on witnessing her daughter and granddaughter, Blue Ivy Carter, on the Met Gala red carpet the night before.
“I got really emotional, shed a few tears,” Knowles admitted. She fondly recalled how seeing 14-year-old Blue Ivy on the carpet echoed Beyoncé’s first red carpet appearance at the age of 15. “Seeing [Blue Ivy] out there looking confident and beautiful brought tears to my eyes,” she shared.
In a touching moment, Knowles likened this year’s experience to “déjà vu,” referencing one of her daughter’s hit songs.
Beyoncé’s presence at the Met Gala on Monday marked a significant return; it was her first attendance in a decade, during which she took on the role of co-chair for the 2026 event alongside Nicole Kidman, Venus Williams, and Anna Wintour.
The night was a family affair for Beyoncé, who arrived with her husband, Jay-Z, and eldest daughter. Notably, Blue Ivy was likely the youngest attendee at the gala, which has a standard guest age of 18 and older, although an exception was made for the children of co-chairs.
