Tim Daly and Téa Leoni Join Forces in NBC Comedy Pilot ‘Newlyweds’ Directed by Pam Fryman
NBC is moving forward with its pilot Newlyweds, starring Téa Leoni and Tim Daly, who were married last July. The pair will lead this multi-camera comedy, co-created by Gail Lerner and Jamie Lee Curtis, marking a reunion from their previous collaboration on CBS’s Madam Secretary.
Written by Lerner, Newlyweds tells the story of Jeanie (Leoni), a free-spirited woman, and Tony (Daly), a reserved professor, who marry impulsively after a brief courtship.
Recently divorced, Tony unexpectedly encounters Jeanie at a valet stand and is captivated by her vivacity. Their spontaneous dinner leads Tony to realize that the life he envisioned with Jeanie will be far from the quiet, settled lifestyle he preferred. He acknowledges that he’d rather adapt his ways than lose her.

Curtis, who was originally slated to star as Jeanie in an earlier version of the project, is now expected to take on a supporting role as Tony’s ex-wife.
Alongside Lerner and Curtis, executive producers include Eric Tannenbaum, Kim Tannenbaum, Scott Schwartz, and Lionsgate Television. Leoni also serves as a producer.
The pilot, produced by Universal Television, will be directed by Pam Fryman, a seasoned multi-camera director known for her work on How I Met Your Mother. Fryman also directed the pilot for NBC’s sophomore sitcom Happy’s Place, which is seeking potential companion series, including Newlyweds.
Daly, recognized for his role on NBC’s Wings and an Emmy-nominated performance on HBO’s The Sopranos, recently appeared in Netflix’s comedy Leanne and had a guest role on Amy Schumer’s Hulu series Life & Beth. He is represented by IAG, Gateway Management & Production, and Behr Abramson Levy Johnson.
