ABC’s The Rookie Season 8 Finale Sees Surge in Viewership
The Season 8 finale of ABC’s The Rookie, which aired on May 4, has achieved impressive ratings, showcasing a year-over-year increase in viewership. The action-packed conclusion featured a long-awaited Chenford proposal, along with a shocking twist, attracting 9.25 million total viewers according to Nielsen’s National Live+7 Day ratings across both linear and streaming platforms.
This marks a 4% increase from the Season 7 finale, which garnered 8.93 million viewers on May 13, 2025. The increase caps a three-week streak of rising viewership, making it the show’s largest audience since January 26, following a week’s worth of viewing on ABC, Hulu, Hulu on Disney+, and other digital platforms.
In addition to its strong overall viewership, the Season 8 finale reached a streaming high over seven days and recorded a season peak rating of 2.1 in the adults 18-49 demographic.
The finale concluded another successful season for The Rookie, which has experienced growth since the pandemic, attracting a broad audience. Notably, the 2025-26 season represents the fourth consecutive year that the series has increased its total viewers and ratings in the 18-49 age group, with totals of 9.04 million viewers and a 2.05 rating compared to the 2021-22 season.
The Season 8 opener, which aired on January 6, also attracted 9.35 million viewers, marking the series’ best multiplatform audience for a premiere in over six years and indicating its continued popularity among viewers.
Starring Nathan Fillion, The Rookie remains especially appealing to younger demographics, emerging as the top broadcast drama among adults 18-34 and the number one series for teens aged 12-17, according to recent Nielsen data.
The series has been renewed for a ninth season, set to return in 2027, and will be accompanied by a new spinoff titled The Rookie: North, featuring Jay Ellis.
