The Rookie: North Welcomes Froy Gutierrez, Janet Montgomery, and Karen Fukuhara to Its Cast
"The Rookie: North" Expands Cast with Five Series Regulars
The upcoming pilot for ABC’s "The Rookie: North" is gaining momentum as five new series regulars join the cast, featuring actors such as Froy Gutierrez, Janet Montgomery, Karen Fukuhara, Mya Lowe, and newcomer Malik Watson. They will star alongside Jay Ellis and Chris Sullivan.
The project is helmed by Alexi Hawley, creator of "The Rookie," who serves as writer and director for the pilot.
"The Rookie: North" centers on Alex Holland (played by Ellis), who initially dismisses his midlife as lacking drama. However, a violent home invasion reignites a long-dormant purpose, prompting Alex to join the Pierce County Police Department in Washington as its oldest rookie. Throughout his journey, he confronts a history of unfulfilled commitments in Los Angeles.
As he navigates policing from urban areas to the forested rural landscape—where backup may not always be readily available—Alex faces the challenge of proving his worth to a skeptical training officer, fellow rookies, and himself.
Character Breakdowns
Montgomery will portray Charlotte Dru, Alex’s training officer. A former military police officer turned Pierce County Police Officer, Charlotte is characterized by her precision, discipline, and a calm demeanor, complemented by a subversive sense of humor.
Lowe plays Elora Howe, a new rookie in search of a newfound purpose, desperately hoping it is not an illusion.
Watson takes on the role of Mark Lewis, Elora’s training officer. Described as a cowboy with sharp edges, Mark is the unwavering support every officer hopes to have during crises.
Gutierrez portrays Odell Chance, another rookie known for being cool, athletic, and confident. Despite his past successes, Odell has yet to face a true test of his abilities.
Fukuhara plays Leah Mizuno, Odell’s training officer. Coming from a background of high achievers, Leah has embraced her role as a police officer despite initial disapproval from her peers.
Additional Information
Unlike the previous spinoff "The Rookie: Feds," "The Rookie: North" is designed as a standalone pilot and is not intended to integrate with the main series. As it aims for next season, there are currently no plans for Ellis to appear in the main series this year.
Produced by Lionsgate and 20th Television, the show features Hawley as writer and executive producer through his Perfectman Pictures. Other executive producers include Nathan Fillion, Mark Gordon, Bill Norcross, and Michelle Chapman.
