The Rolling Stones announced on Tuesday, May 5, that they are entering a new album era with the release of their 25th studio LP, Foreign Tongues, set to arrive on July 10.
The 14-track album will reunite core members Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, and Ronnie Wood, accompanied by a notable lineup of guest artists, including Paul McCartney, Steve Winwood, The Cure’s Robert Smith, and Chad Smith from the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Leading up to the album release, the band has shared two tracks: the album opener “Rough and Twisted” and the lead single “In the Stars.” The project was produced in less than a month at Metropolis Studios in West London, as showcased in a newly released album trailer that features footage of the trio both working diligently and enjoying their time in the studio. Andrew Watt, who collaborated with the band on Hackney Diamonds, takes on production duties for this album as well.
“It was a very intense few weeks recording Foreign Tongues,” Jagger stated. “We went as fast as we could.”
Wood expressed enthusiasm about the creative energy, saying, “The atmosphere in the room was so creative. The whole band was on top form throughout the whole process. Very often we nailed it on the first take. I hope everyone loves it.”
Alongside longtime bassist Darryl Jones and drummer Steve Jordan, who joined after the passing of Charlie Watts in 2021, the band ensured that Watts was included in Foreign Tongues by incorporating a recording of him playing drums from one of his final studio sessions.
“It was great to be working in London again, and to have that London vibe around us,” Richards noted. “It was a month of concentrated punch. To me, it’s all about the enjoyment of it. I’m blessed to be able to do this and long may it last.”
The Rolling Stones last released an album in 2023 with Hackney Diamonds, which reached No. 3 on the Billboard 200. In total, the band has achieved 61 projects on the chart, including nine No. 1 albums.
