The News Agents Bring on a New Studio Chief for Global Hiring
Global Studios Appoints Craig Hunter as Managing Director
Global has confirmed the appointment of Craig Hunter as the Managing Director of its newly launched Global Studios. Hunter, who previously served as Creative Director of Factual at STV Studios, was handpicked by Simon Pitts, the former STV boss now leading Global.
Hunter’s extensive background includes experience as a commissioner at the BBC, where he played a pivotal role in projects such as Blue Planet Live and Inside the Factory. In his new role, he will work alongside Pitts to spearhead creative and commercial initiatives at Global Studios, focusing on both UK and international growth. His responsibilities will also encompass partnerships with The Fellas, a studio recently acquired by Global, as well as The Overlap, founded by former England and Manchester United soccer player Gary Neville.
Global, recognized as one of the largest radio companies in the UK and Europe, launched Global Studios following its acquisition of The Fellas Studios last year. The studio is intended to be a "one-stop-shop for creators," emphasizing video-first podcast content, including popular series like The News Agents and My Therapist Ghosted Me.
Pitts praised Hunter as an "outstanding creative leader," highlighting his success in transforming new shows into enduring brands. "I’ve seen firsthand how effectively Craig leads teams and develops new shows into successful, returning brands, and I’m excited that he’ll be bringing that same creativity, expertise, and ambition to Global," said Pitts.
Hunter expressed his enthusiasm for the new opportunity, stating, "I’ve loved every second of my time at STV Studios and I’m hugely proud of my team and the shows and brands we’ve built together. I’m excited to be leading one of the industry’s most dynamic digital content businesses and I’m looking forward to working with Simon, James, and the talented team at Global to build the next chapter of success."
David Mortimer, CEO of STV Studios, remarked on Hunter’s departure, saying, “We wish Craig continued success in his new role and we’re excited about appointing a new leader of STV Studios Factual to take this successful nations and regions powerhouse of production into its next phase of growth.”
The appointment comes as Global continues to expand its offerings, particularly in light of the recent acquisition of The Overlap, which boasts over 38 million monthly views on YouTube. With Hunter at the helm, Global Studios aims to elevate its position in the competitive landscape of digital content creation.
