Tessa Thompson, Owen Cooper, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach to Feature in the Thriller ‘Foxfinder’ at Cannes Market
Director Aoife McArdle, known for her work on Severance, is set to helm Foxfinder, a psychological thriller featuring an impressive cast that includes BAFTA and Emmy award-nominee Tessa Thompson (Creed), Golden Globe and Emmy winner Owen Cooper (Adolescence), and two-time Emmy winner Ebon Moss-Bachrach (The Bear).
Cornerstone and Logical Pictures Group will co-handle international sales and distribution, launching their sales efforts at Cannes. The U.S. rights are jointly represented by WME Independent, Cornerstone, and Logical Pictures Group.
The film’s synopsis describes a grieving couple, Jude and Sam, whose daily routine is disrupted by the arrival of William, a fervent government “foxfinder.” Tasked with identifying a supposed threat—the fox—he spirals them into a world where paranoia grows, absurd regulations tighten, and love gives way to suspicion.
Production is slated to begin in Germany, with filming scheduled for the summer of 2026 in Bavaria. The film is inspired by a play written by Dawn King, featuring a screenplay co-written by McArdle and King.
The project is a collaboration between Rabbit Track Pictures and Elation Pictures, developed in association with Film4 and the BFI. Co-producers include Komplizen Film (Toni Erdmann) and Trimafilm. Funding sources also comprise Logical Pictures Group, the German Federal Film Fund (DFFF), the Bavarian Fund FFF Bayern, and Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg.
Producers for the film include Kamilla Hodøl and Emilie Jouffroy of Elation Pictures, and Kitty Kaletsky (King & Conqueror), Janine Jackowski (Sentimental Value), and David Armati Lechner (Home Stories) from Trimafilm. Executive producers are Farhana Bhula and Cate Kane for Film4, alongside Fred Fiore and Ryan Wickers for Logical.
Hodøl and Jouffroy expressed their enthusiasm, stating: “Aoife is a visionary storyteller, and her bold and cinematic take on Foxfinder will be both epic and deeply probing. We are thrilled to be bringing it to life with such a stellar cast and supportive backers.”
Kaletsky remarked, “Foxfinder’s searing and absurdist examination of tyranny, prejudice, and scapegoating feels more timely with every week that goes by and the play and film’s themes will resonate with audiences all around the world.”
Farhana Bhula, Director of Film4, stated, “Supporting Aoife on her second feature alongside her dedicated producers has been a priority for Film4. She’s an exceptional filmmaker of remarkable precision and imagination. Foxfinder speaks powerfully to our current moment, and we’re thrilled to see it brought to life by such an extraordinary cast.”
