Sydney Sweeney Stars in ‘The Custom of the Country’ with Louis Garrel, Matthew Goode, Rose Leslie, Martha Plimpton, and Irene Jacob
Cast Announced for ‘The Custom of the Country’ Film Adaptation
Sydney Sweeney will be joined by an impressive ensemble cast, including Josh Finan, Louis Garrel, Matthew Goode, Rose Leslie, Martha Plimpton, Irene Jacob, Hugh Dancy, Ian Hart, James McArdle, Rosie Sheehy, Louisa Harland, Ronkẹ Adékọluẹ́jọ́, Dominic West, and Miranda Richardson in the film adaptation of The Custom of the Country. The project, produced by Studiocanal and Charles Finch’s Rabbit’s Foot Films, is currently underway.
The film, directed by Josie Rourke and based on the novel by Edith Wharton, features Sweeney in the role of Undine Spragg. Undine is characterized as a fiercely ambitious woman from the Midwest who aims to ascend the social ladder of turn-of-the-century New York. Driven by her beauty, tenacity, and ambition, she navigates a world dominated by an established elite, fearlessly courting controversy until her aspirations for love and success collide.
In addition to Sweeney, Leo Woodall has also been confirmed to star in the film. The production is a collaboration among Sweeney, LD Entertainment, Finch, Monumental Pictures’ Alice Owen, and Studiocanal, which will finance and handle the film’s worldwide release in numerous territories, including the UK, France, Germany, Australia, New Zealand, Poland, and Benelux. LD Entertainment has secured the North American distribution rights.
Overseeing the project from Studiocanal are Ron Halpern, EVP Global Production, Shana Eddy-Grouf, US Chief Creative Officer, and Sudie Smyth, Head of Physical Production. The film’s crew comprises notable talents, including director of photography Ruben Impens, costume designer Lauren Reyhani, production designer Laura Ellis Cricks, and make-up and hairstylists Morgan Ross and Nikki Gooley, with casting by Nina Gold.
