Sydney Sweeney, the star of the newly released psychological thriller The Housemaid, expressed a strong desire to continue her role in future installments. In a recent interview, she shared her enthusiasm for the project, saying, "I would love to. I was such a huge fan of the books, so I would be just as happy as everyone else being able to see more Housemaids come to life and getting to explore more of Millie."
Sweeney portrays Millie in the film directed by Paul Feig. She describes her character as "spicy" and a fighter, emphasizing that Millie "knows what she believes in and she stands up for it." The actress finds joy in roles that showcase women’s strength and resilience, remarking, "I love seeing movies that have just fully embraced female rage."
There’s ample source material for potential sequels. Freida McFadden, the author of the original Housemaid book, has expanded the series with follow-up novels: The Housemaid’s Secret (2023) and The Housemaid Is Watching (2024), as well as a short story titled The Housemaid’s Wedding.
At the film’s New York premiere, McFadden shared her eagerness to see the other entries adapted for the big screen, stating, “That would be a dream. I know Paul Feig would do an amazing job in the sequel. He’s incredible.”
Feig, discussing the prospects of a sequel, emphasized the importance of audience support, noting, “If people go to the movies and make this happen, I’m confident a sequel is possible.” He expressed gratitude for McFadden’s approval of his film adaptation, highlighting her entertaining style and openness to making the movie engaging.
The Housemaid is currently in theaters.
