Suspected DUI Incident Involving Stolen Golf Cart on Catalina Island
A Man Arrested on DUI Charges Following Golf Cart Crash on Catalina Island
Authorities arrested a man on suspicion of driving under the influence (DUI) after he crashed a stolen golf cart on Catalina Island, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
The incident, which occurred on Sunday, began when a sheriff’s sergeant was approached by a local resident who reported his golf cart was stolen. The officer began to follow the stolen vehicle, which contained a man and woman, before it crashed and overturned shortly thereafter.
Fortunately, no significant injuries were reported in connection with the crash. The man was charged with DUI and taking the cart without the owner’s consent.
In a concerning turn of events, the woman accompanying him was arrested on suspicion of willful cruelty to a child and child endangerment. The sheriff’s department revealed that the couple had left a child unattended at a rental property. The Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services intervened, and the child was subsequently released back to the mother.
The case is now being prepared for presentation to county prosecutors, who will consider potential criminal charges.
