Stolen Rare Pokémon Card Collection Valued at $200K in West LA
$200,000 Pokémon Card Collection Stolen in Armed Robbery in West Los Angeles
LOS ANGELES – An investigation is underway after a collector was robbed at gunpoint of a Pokémon card collection valued at more than $200,000 late Monday night. The incident occurred just after 10 p.m. outside a trading card shop on Olympic Boulevard in the Sawtelle neighborhood.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the victim was approached by an armed suspect as he left the store. The assailant brandished a handgun and demanded the valuable collection. Following the theft, the suspect fled the scene in a vehicle.
The LAPD estimates the value of the stolen cards at $200,000 on the "low end," indicating that the total worth may rise as further inventory assessments are conducted. Fortunately, the victim was uninjured during the encounter.
Investigators are currently reviewing security camera footage from the area but have not released information regarding the suspect’s identity or a description of the getaway vehicle. Authorities are also exploring whether the victim was specifically targeted or if the suspect had been monitoring him prior to the robbery.
As detectives continue to process video evidence, they are expected to provide updates on suspect information soon. Additionally, law enforcement may collaborate with local hobby shops and online marketplaces to monitor for any attempts to sell the stolen cards.
In light of this incident, officials advise collectors to use discreet packaging for high-value items and to conduct transactions in well-lit, monitored areas. Given the rising value of collectibles, experts also recommend considering specialized insurance policies and professional vaulting services to ensure proper asset protection.
