Starz to Air BBC Series ‘The Listeners’ Featuring Rebecca Hall
Starz has announced its acquisition of the BBC series The Listeners, starring Rebecca Hall.
Produced by Element Pictures, known for the acclaimed series Normal People, and directed by Janicza Bravo, the show is adapted from Jordan Tannahill’s novel. It centers on Claire (Hall), an English teacher who begins to hear a low humming sound that no one else perceives. This seemingly harmless noise disrupts her life and heightens tensions with her husband Paul (Prasanna Puwanarajah) and daughter Ashley (Mia Tharia). The plot thickens when Claire discovers that one of her students, Kyle (Ollie West), can also hear the sound, leading to an unexpected and intimate friendship between them.
More than a year after its original airing on the BBC, the acquisition reflects a continued interest among American buyers in British content. Starz’s partnership with the BBC is not new, having previously collaborated on dramas such as The Missing and Dublin Murders. Global sales are managed by Fremantle, with the deal facilitated by Lisa Honig, EVP of Distribution, North America, and Lorenzo De Maio of De Maio Entertainment.
“The Listeners pulls viewers in from the start with its unique mystery while provoking questions about how society treats and believes women’s experiences,” said Alison Hoffman, President of Starz Networks. “We’re proud to bring this critically acclaimed project to the U.S. and expand our suite of premium programming for women with this riveting psychological thriller.”
