Stage 32 and Pathfinder Media Film Announce First Winner of Comedy Screenwriting Contest
Ted Sperling Wins Comedy Screenwriting Contest with ‘Treasure Inc.’
In a notable achievement, Ted Sperling has been announced as the grand prize winner of a recent comedy screenwriting contest organized by Stage 32, Pathfinder Media, and acclaimed director Todd Biermann, known for his work on Mythic Quest and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.
Sperling’s winning screenplay, Treasure Inc., is an ensemble comedy that will now move into development. He will collaborate with Biermann and Mark Wheeler from Pathfinder Media to bring this project to fruition. Richard “RB” Botto and Geoffroy Faugérolas from Stage 32 will serve as executive producers.
“Ted Sperling wrote a screenplay that plays like a crowd-pleaser and earns every beat of it,” Biermann stated. “Treasure Inc. is a propulsive ensemble comedy with elevated stakes, genuine heart, and an original voice that also feels familiar. I’m excited to work with him.”
Based in Los Angeles, Sperling has built a significant following online, amassing over a billion views across platforms like TikTok, YouTube, and Instagram. His career began at Lionsgate, followed by work as a Writers’ PA on the Mitch Hurwitz series Running Wilde. He has participated in the Fox Writers Program and trained at the Upright Citizens Brigade. Notably, Sperling was recognized on The Tracking Board’s list of Young and Hungry Writers in 2014 and has developed several projects with various production companies.
In addition to the grand prize, two honorable mentions were awarded. Lissette R. Jean-Marie received recognition for her feature screenplay, Book Fcker, which Biermann described as “sharp, current, and unique—guided by a crystal clear voice and authentic POV” tailored for the BookTok generation. The TV pilot honor was shared by writing duo Emma Pyne and Sarina Taylor for their work on Safe Word*, which Biermann praised for its difficult blend of pitch-black comedy and emotional depth.
“Working with Mark and Todd has been a true honor,” Faugérolas noted. “The level of dedication they have shown to these writers is second to none. We’re discovering new voices, empowering emerging creators, and breaking down barriers that have historically made Hollywood inaccessible to so many.”
As Treasure Inc. enters development with support from Stage 32 and Pathfinder Media, the writers behind the honorable mentions will also receive mentorship from industry professionals at 3Pas Studios, Elevate Entertainment, Epigram Entertainment, and other partners to help advance their projects.
