SpaceX Falcon 9 Rocket Ready to Launch from the Santa Barbara Coast
Launch of 25 Starlink Satellites Scheduled from Vandenberg Space Force Base
A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket is set to launch from Vandenberg Space Force Base on Wednesday evening, with plans to deploy 25 Starlink internet satellites into low-Earth orbit. The launch window will be open from 6:43 p.m. to 10:43 p.m. California time.
Conditions permitting, the rocket’s ascent, along with its exhaust plume, may be visible for hundreds of miles along the coastline, particularly during the twilight hours. Launches occurring just after sunset or before sunrise typically offer the best viewing opportunities, as the rocket reflects sunlight against a darkening sky. In Los Angeles, sunset is expected to occur at 5:13 p.m.
Following the launch, the first stage booster will separate and land on the Of Course I Still Love You droneship in the Pacific Ocean. Residents of Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, and Ventura counties may experience one or more sonic booms during this phase of the mission.
SpaceX continues its efforts to expand the Starlink satellite constellation, which orbits approximately 340 miles above Earth. The network aims to provide high-speed internet access globally. Under optimal conditions, the satellites can appear as a bright trail moving across the night sky shortly after sunset or before sunrise, allowing observers to witness their passage as they reflect sunlight.
