LOS ANGELES – A tragic incident has unfolded involving renowned filmmaker Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner. Reports confirm that the couple was found dead at their Brentwood home on Sunday night. Their son, Nick Reiner, 32, has been arrested and booked in connection with the case.
According to data from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Inmate Information Center, Nick Reiner was taken into custody on Sunday and subsequently booked the following day with a bail set at $4 million. While no specific charges have been confirmed, records indicate he is facing felony charges.
Nick Reiner has publicly shared his struggles with addiction and has experienced homelessness. He co-wrote the 2015 film "Being Charlie," which drew on his own life experiences and was directed by his father. The film received a SAMHSA Voice Award in recognition of its themes surrounding mental health and addiction.
At approximately 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, Los Angeles City first responders were summoned to the Reiner residence for what was initially reported as a medical emergency. Upon arrival, paramedics discovered 78-year-old Rob Reiner and his 68-year-old wife, Michele, who were pronounced dead at the scene.
The LAPD’s Robbery-Homicide Division is leading the investigation into the couple’s deaths. Following the incident, investigators obtained a search warrant to conduct a thorough examination of the home. Reports indicate that their daughter, Romy Reiner, was involved in alerting authorities to the situation.
Rob Reiner, a celebrated figure in the entertainment industry, is known for his extensive career as an actor, director, producer, and political activist. He gained fame for his role in the iconic sitcom "All in the Family" and is credited with directing classics such as "The Princess Bride" and "Stand by Me."
This tragic event marks another instance of patricide in Southern California, following various recent cases that have drawn attention to similar circumstances.
