SNL Takes a Funny Dig at Stranger Things with Finn Wolfhard’s Adult Film Joke and Special Guest Appearances
Finn Wolfhard humorously announced his readiness to take on “adult films” following the conclusion of the Netflix phenomenon Stranger Things during his opening monologue on Saturday Night Live. The moment was made lively by surprise appearances from co-stars Gaten Matarazzo and Caleb McLaughlin.
"I gotta tell you: It feels so amazing that 400 million people got to watch me go through puberty. What a dream," Wolfhard joked at the start of his segment, reflecting on the unique milestones he experienced throughout the filming of the Duffer Brothers’ fantasy drama—from his first kiss to the moment his voice changed.
As a clip aired featuring young Mike Wheeler confronting a Demogorgon, Wolfhard declared, “I am a man,” backed by a jazzy instrumental.
After a few light-hearted jabs at his sparse facial hair, he humorously proclaimed, “Stranger Things is over, and I’m not a kid anymore.” Matarazzo and McLaughlin added, “And neither are we!” as they appeared on stage.
Matarazzo made a tongue-in-cheek comment about headlines that refer to “former child stars,” suggesting they can only imply good things. McLaughlin humorously expressed gratitude for the relentless social media commentary about their evolving appearances.
Later in the show, Saturday Night Live, under Lorne Michaels, spoofed Stranger Things, poking fun at viewers who speculated about a hidden ninth episode. In a pre-taped segment, various ’90s-inspired spinoffs were imagined, including “Strangerous Minds,” featuring Steve Harrington as a teacher, and “Mike in Manhattan,” which had a Sex and the City vibe. The sketch also humorously retold the entire Stranger Things narrative from the perspective of an “insignificant character,” Mike Wheeler’s dad, portrayed by Mikey Day. Will Byers’ character was humorously noted for not receiving a spinoff due to his ongoing coming-out storyline. In a comedic twist, Kenan Thompson appeared as Eleven, donning a hospital gown and wielding an Eggo waffle.
