SkyShowtime Brings Back ‘Where The Sun Always Shines’ with Kristofer Hivju from ‘Game of Thrones’ Joining the Cast
Kristofer Hivju Joins Cast of Renewed Swedish Drama ‘Where the Sun Always Shines’
Swedish drama Where the Sun Always Shines has secured a second season with the addition of Kristofer Hivju, best known for his role in Game of Thrones. The renewal comes from SkyShowtime, a streaming service owned by Comcast and Paramount, which reported that the first season was a breakout hit across its European platforms.
Alongside Hivju, the cast for the new season features Johan Glans and Celie Sparre, with production already underway.
Where the Sun Always Shines (known in Swedish as Där Solen Alltid Skiner) is the brainchild of Felix Herngren, who serves both as creator and director. Season 2 will see the return of familiar characters played by Per Lasson, Lisa Linnertorp, Erik “Jerka” Johansson, and Rakel Wärmländer. The narrative continues to unravel the lives of two expatriate families in Spain as they navigate unresolved conflicts and complex family dynamics.
Hivju takes on the role of Anker, described as an eccentric Norwegian intellectual and artist who embraces a rejection of modernity, instead delving into his fascination with Roman ideals.
“I loved Season 1, and it’s a real joy to join this incredible cast as ‘Anker,’ a character I hope will bring plenty of life and stir things up where the sun always shines,” Hivju stated. “Working with Felix Herngren and the rest of the team has been an absolute pleasure, and I can’t wait for audiences to see what’s in store for season two.”
Produced by the Scandinavian company FLX, Where the Sun Always Shines is co-produced by SkyShowtime and Swedish public broadcaster SVT.
SkyShowtime continues to expand its lineup with not only hit U.S. series from its parent companies but also local original content from various regions. Its Scandinavian originals include the sports documentary Schmeichel, the crime drama Veronika, and the upcoming series The Trio (Trion), set to premiere on June 1.
