Sierra Canyon Dominates at Hoophall Classic, Preparing for Key Matchup
Sierra Canyon, currently ranked No. 1 in high school basketball in Southern California, secured a decisive 75-58 victory over Miami Columbus at the Hoophall Classic hosted by Springfield College this past Saturday.
Brandon McCoy was named the game’s Most Valuable Player, showcasing his skills with 24 points and 10 rebounds. He shared the scoring spotlight with teammate Maxi Adams, who also contributed 24 points.
With a record of 18-1, Sierra Canyon is poised for a significant challenge on Wednesday when they face defending champion Harvard-Westlake (21-2) in a highly anticipated Mission League matchup, expected to attract a full house.
In other matchups from the Hoophall Classic, Fairfield (Conn.) Notre Dame Prep triumphed over Mater Dei with a score of 72-57. The Monarchs, now at 14-9, struggled against their opponents.
Los Alamitos edged out St. Francis 73-70 in overtime, with standout Tyler Lopez scoring 25 points. St. Francis’ Cole Ragsdale added 19 points, although the team played without the injured 7-foot-4 Cherif Millogo.
Damien rolled to a 53-32 victory against North Torrance, improving their season record to 20-4. Eli Garner was a key player, scoring 20 points with an impressive eight-for-12 shooting performance.
Heritage Christian defeated St. Anthony 68-45, with Dominic Loehle leading the charge with 24 points and 10 assists.
Girls Basketball Highlights
In girls basketball, Brentwood achieved a solid 73-42 victory over La Jolla Bishops, with Mikaella Kawahito leading the Eagles with 21 points.
South Torrance narrowly edged St. Anthony 53-51, where Laila Hughes recorded 13 points and nine rebounds for St. Anthony.
Birmingham dominated El Segundo with an 84-43 score, courtesy of 21 points from Kiara Wakabi and a double-double from Jaydin Walker, who added 20 points along with 11 rebounds.
