Kurt Iswarienko Challenges Divorce Settlement Nearly Two Years After Shannen Doherty’s Passing
Kurt Iswarienko, the ex-husband of the late actress Shannen Doherty, has filed legal documents to challenge their divorce settlement in Los Angeles Superior Court. This filing occurred on January 14, shortly after the actress’s estate claimed he had not met several financial obligations outlined in the agreement.
Iswarienko’s attorney argues that the divorce settlement was submitted in an incorrect court, which allegedly undermines the court’s jurisdiction over the case. The settlement, signed by Doherty on July 12, 2024, and Iswarienko on July 13, was finalized just before Doherty’s passing on July 13 that year.
In the court documents, Iswarienko asserted that the divorce case should be dismissed due to Doherty’s death after a prolonged battle with cancer. He contends that the settlement should not have been filed at all.

This challenge follows allegations from Doherty’s attorneys and Christopher Cortazzo, the trustee of her family trust. They asserted in a November 24 filing that Iswarienko still owes financial reparations as part of the divorce settlement.
Among the financial responsibilities was the requirement for Iswarienko to sell Doherty’s $1.5 million home in Texas and share the net proceeds with her estate. The recent filing claims he has yet to list the property for sale.
Additionally, Iswarienko was reportedly tasked with purchasing Doherty’s portion of a Mooney M-20 airplane for $100,000 and paying the amount to her estate within five business days of the sale. However, it is alleged that he retained $50,274 from the estate after selling the plane in August 2024, failing to remit that amount.
Beyond these financial obligations, the filing also revealed that Iswarienko has not returned Doherty’s personal belongings, including photographs, as stipulated in their divorce agreement.
In his January 14 filing, Iswarienko countered that Cortazzo lacks authority under the trust to raise the motion in the first place.
Doherty filed for divorce from Iswarienko in 2023, after 11 years of marriage. At the time, her representative stated, "Divorce is the last thing Shannen wanted. Unfortunately, she felt she was left with no other option."

In December 2023, Doherty disclosed in an interview that she had learned of Iswarienko’s infidelity just before her brain surgery to remove a tumor. Reflecting on the revelation, she stated, “I went in after I found out that my marriage was essentially over, that my husband had been carrying on an affair for two years. At the end of the day, I just felt so incredibly unloved by someone I was with for 14 years, by someone I loved with all my heart.”
