Shailene Woodley to Narrate Ocean Documentary
Shailene Woodley, known for her roles in Paradise and Divergent, will lend her voice to Ocean Dreams, an upcoming IMAX and Giant Screen documentary focusing on the critical importance of the world’s oceans. This project is a collaboration between SK Films and Deep Sea Productions.
The film is slated to debut in select IMAX and Giant Screen theaters on June 8, coinciding with World Ocean Day. A trailer has been released, offering a glimpse into its stunning visuals.
"Every second breath we take is a gift from the ocean," Woodley states in the trailer. "So take another one, and dive in with me."
Ocean Dreams showcases the beauty and resilience of Earth’s oceans, featuring scenes from locations such as the deep fjords of Norway, where orcas teach their young to hunt, and Raja Ampat in Indonesia, recognized for its rich biodiversity and projects aimed at conserving endangered shark species. The documentary also highlights the revival of the Bikini Atoll coral reef in the Marshall Islands.
In a statement, Woodley emphasized the myriad benefits oceans provide, including oxygen and food. "I am encouraged that this beautiful and inspiring film will be seen by millions in museums and science centers around the world, increasing our understanding of the ocean and why it is so important to protect," she said.
Directed by Johan Candert, Ocean Dreams features immersive underwater cinematography designed to engage audiences deeply in marine life. The release is accompanied by an extensive educational and outreach campaign developed in partnership with UNESCO IOC and the Voice of the Ocean Foundation, equipping theaters with resources to promote ocean science and conservation.
"The script is written from an underwater perspective, and it was very important that the narrator felt what I wanted to convey," Candert remarked. "Early in the process, Shailene and I discussed her diving experience at Raja Ampat. It was evident that she shares a genuine commitment to this subject and a profound love for the ocean, which resonates through her narration."
Woodley is set to appear in Season 2 of Paradise and will soon be featured in Hulu’s Count My Lies, based on Sophie Stava’s best-selling novel.
