Shailene Woodley Stars in MRC’s New Erotic Thriller ‘Mother’s Helper’ with Milo Callaghan and Luke Kirby
Shailene Woodley to Star in Upcoming Thriller Mother’s Helper
Shailene Woodley, known for her acclaimed role in Big Little Lies, is set to headline the erotic thriller Mother’s Helper. The film, which will mark the directorial debut of Bridget Moloney, is being produced by MRC.
Joining Woodley in the cast are Milo Callaghan, recognized for his work in The Rainmaker, and Luke Kirby, known for his performance in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.
Mother’s Helper follows the story of a woman, portrayed by Woodley, who grapples with the challenges of balancing her career, family, and marriage. To alleviate some of her burdens, she enlists the help of a charming young man.
MRC has a storied history of supporting first-time filmmakers, with previous projects featuring talents like Chloe Domont (Fair Play), Jake Johnson (Self Reliance), and Academy Award winner Cord Jefferson (American Fiction).
The studio is financing the film, with Aaron Ryder and Andrew Swett producing, alongside Rachel Rubin as co-producer for Ryder Picture Company. Their upcoming slate also includes titles such as I Love Boosters (Neon), Office Romance (Netflix), The Death of Robin Hood, and Onslaught with A24.
Woodley, a nominee for both an Emmy and a Golden Globe, has gained recognition for her performances not only in Big Little Lies and the Divergent films, but also in her recent projects including Killer Heat, Three Women, Dumb Money, and Ferrari. She is set to appear next in Hulu’s limited series Count My Lies, sharing the screen with Lindsay Lohan, as well as Netflix’s Unabomber, produced in collaboration with MRC and 2.0 Entertainment.
Callaghan recently starred with John Slattery in USA’s The Rainmaker, and has also appeared in Rivals, Dune: Prophecy, and Video Nasty.
Kirby, an Emmy winner celebrated for his work with Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino on Prime Video series like The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and Étoile, is known for roles in The Last Thing He Told Me, Dr. Death, and No Man of God.
MRC’s upcoming projects also include The Only Living Pickpocket in New York, The Gallerist, A Place in Hell, The Best is Yet To Come, Unabomber, and Eloise.
