Savannah Guthrie Plans Vocal Cord Surgery and Will Take a Short Break from NBC’s ‘Today’
Savannah Guthrie to Take Leave for Vocal Cord Surgery
Savannah Guthrie, co-host of Today, announced that she will be stepping away from the show for a few weeks to undergo surgery on her vocal cords.
During Friday’s broadcast, Guthrie explained her ongoing vocal challenges, comparing her condition to a memorable moment from The Brady Bunch. “I have felt like Peter Brady these past few weeks and months," she said, referring to an episode where Peter’s voice cracks while he and his siblings pursue singing careers.
Guthrie revealed that she has been diagnosed with vocal nodules and a polyp, stating, “It’s not a big, big deal, but I am going to have a surgery real early in the new year and be off for a couple of weeks.” This announcement marks her last day on air for the time being, as she reassured viewers, “If you’ve been wondering, do I have the world’s longest head cold? No, I don’t.”
In a light-hearted tone, she added, “You’ll love this, guys. I have to be silent for a couple of weeks, totally silent,” humorously acknowledging the potential for jokes about her situation.
Guthrie’s absence will be felt by fans as she takes this necessary step towards recovery.
