Sara Foster Reflects on Awkward Date with George Clooney
Sara Foster recently recounted an amusing yet awkward dating experience from nearly thirty years ago involving George Clooney, orchestrated by none other than supermodel Cindy Crawford.
During a January 15 episode of her podcast, The World’s First Podcast, co-hosted with her sister Erin Foster, Sara, 44, revealed the details of the double date set up by Crawford and her husband, Rande Gerber. "Do you guys know that I got set up with George Clooney like 30 years ago and it was such a blah [date]? Sorry, had to say,” Sara stated.
The date, which included the couples meeting at a restaurant, did not leave a positive impression on Sara, who described the experience as “depressing.” She expressed surprise at being matched with Clooney, saying, “I just remember being like offended that they would set me up with him ‘cause he felt so old at the time.”
Sara elaborated on her feelings during the date, noting that she thought Clooney was much older than her and admitted struggling to comprehend relationships with significant age differences. “I just remember being like offended that they would set me up with him ‘cause he felt so old at the time,” she reiterated.
Despite her reservations, Sara felt that Clooney likely didn’t want to be set up either, implying he wasn’t enthusiastic about the match: “I think it was Rande and Cindy being like, ‘We know someone great.’ I don’t think he was that into it either.”
The conversation took an amusing turn when Erin joked that Sara was likely “the only one on the planet” who would be disappointed by a date with Clooney, whom she described as the "heartthrob of America."
Sara, reflecting on the dynamics of the evening, added, “I’m sure George Clooney is a nice guy, but I just remember it being the four of us, sitting there thinking like, ‘I’m gonna die. I’m so sad over the other one.’”
In a further revelation, Sara admitted that she ended up discussing her ex during the date, which likely contributed to the awkwardness. “I started crying about my ex to him,” she shared, recalling how uncomfortable that might have been for Clooney.
Despite the amusing anecdotes from the past, both Foster sisters moved on from that moment. Sara later married former tennis player Tommy Haas in 2006; they share two daughters before separating in 2024. Clooney, meanwhile, eventually married Amal Alamuddin in 2014, with whom he has twins, Alexander and Ella, born in 2017.
This light-hearted retrospective serves as a reminder that even high-profile figures encounter awkward moments and relationships that don’t pan out.
