Ryan Reynolds Shares Insights on Deadpool’s Future as a Supporting Character: “I Have Some Ideas in Mind”
Ryan Reynolds is providing insights into the future of Deadpool, suggesting he already has some plans in mind.
Following his role in the upcoming 2024 film Deadpool & Wolverine, fans are eager to know the character’s next move. In a recent interview, Reynolds offered intriguing hints about Deadpool’s future.
During a segment on Today’s Sunday Sitdown Live, Reynolds was asked if he had been contemplating more stories for Deadpool.
“I have some stuff kind of written,” he revealed.
He further remarked, “I don’t think I’m going to center him again. I think he’s a supporting character, you know?”
Reynolds characterized Deadpool as “a guy that’s great in a group.”
While a fourth Deadpool film has yet to be officially announced, speculation about Reynolds returning as the irreverent superhero in Avengers: Doomsday has been widely discussed on social media. However, Reynolds has downplayed these rumors, stating in September 2025 that he has not “stepped foot on set” for the film.
Doomsday, scheduled for release on December 18, is anticipated to serve as a farewell to the X-Men characters before their reboot, a project currently in development by director Jake Schreier.
The Deadpool character is intrinsically linked to the X-Men, a focus that Avengers: Doomsday will emphasize. Notable stars returning to reprise their roles include Patrick Stewart (Charles Xavier/Professor X), Ian McKellen (Magneto), Alan Cumming (Nightcrawler), Rebecca Romijn (Mystique), James Marsden (Cyclops), and Channing Tatum (Gambit). The film will be directed by Anthony Russo and Joe Russo, with a script penned by Michael Waldron and Stephen McFeely.
