Ryan Poehling Secures Four-Year Contract Extension with Anaheim Ducks
Ryan Poehling has officially signed a four-year, $15 million contract extension with the Anaheim Ducks, marking a significant commitment during his inaugural season with the team. The Ducks announced the deal on Thursday.
In his first 54 games with the Ducks, Poehling has made a notable impact, contributing seven goals and 17 assists while establishing himself as a key penalty killer and defensive forward. His performance has been instrumental for the Ducks, who are currently vying for their first playoff appearance since 2018.
Poehling joined the Ducks last June as part of a trade with the Philadelphia Flyers, which sent center Trevor Zegras— a former first-round pick and fan favorite— to Philadelphia. This decision by general manager Pat Verbeek has not been well-received by many Anaheim supporters; however, Poehling’s contributions have somewhat mitigated that disappointment as he plays a crucial depth role for the second-place Ducks.
At 27, Poehling is now with his fourth NHL team, having been selected in the first round by the Montreal Canadiens in 2017. Before joining the Ducks, he had a stint with the Pittsburgh Penguins and spent the previous season with the Flyers, where he achieved career highs of 12 goals and 19 assists.
Poehling’s new contract will keep him with the Ducks through the 2029-30 season, following a raise from his previous two-year, $3.8 million deal.
