Ryan Phillippe Joins the Cast of 9-1-1: Nashville for Season 2
9-1-1: Nashville is making headlines ahead of its Season 1 finale, as the hit ABC drama has announced that Ryan Phillippe will join the cast as a new series regular for Season 2.
Phillippe, who has signed a multi-year agreement, will portray a brilliant and unconventional detective relocating to Nashville from New York. Described as a charismatic figure with a complex history, the character is expected to bring a significant amount of drama as he leads an investigation into a mysterious crime wave affecting the city.
He will join the current cast, which includes Chris O’Donnell, Jessica Capshaw, Kimberly Williams-Paisley, LeAnn Rimes, Michael Provost, Juani Feliz, Hailey Kilgore, and Hunter McVey.
9-1-1: Nashville extends the 9-1-1 franchise into Tennessee, introducing a new ensemble of first responders and their families. The series received an early renewal for the 2026-27 season, alongside its parent show, 9-1-1, earlier this March.
After a promising start, the spinoff experienced a drop in viewership during its fall finale, but it rebounded with series-high ratings recorded in late January and late March. The show is currently averaging nearly 8 million total viewers across multiple platforms, including ABC, Hulu, and digital services, over a 35-day viewing period.
As the first season progressed, the show underwent some retooling, with further adjustments anticipated in the upcoming offseason, highlighted by the high-profile addition of Phillippe.
Produced by 20th Television in association with Ryan Murphy Television, 9-1-1: Nashville is executive produced by Ryan Murphy, Tim Minear, and showrunner Rashad Raisani, along with Chris O’Donnell, Brad Buecker, Brad Falchuk, and Angela Bassett.
After a brief hiatus, 9-1-1: Nashville is set to return on April 30, with the Season 1 finale scheduled for May 7.
