Russell Wilson and Ciara have made a significant impact this holiday season by donating $3 million to the Mount Sinai Karvis Children’s Hospital. This contribution marks the couple’s ongoing commitment to philanthropy through Wilson’s Why Not You Foundation.
The donation, announced on Friday during a segment on Good Morning America, will enhance the hospital’s pediatric programs. Funds will be directed toward improving the hospital’s common area, providing a space where young patients can engage in therapeutic and creative activities. Additionally, the donation will support the children’s holiday shop.
As part of his charitable efforts, Wilson has been visiting the children’s hospital every Tuesday during his days off from practicing and playing with the New York Giants. “I started going to children’s hospitals because my dad was unfortunately always in the hospital—he had diabetes—and my mom was an ER nurse,” Wilson shared in an interview with GMA.
He expressed a desire to make a difference in the lives of these children, stating, “Every time I walk in a room, I’m praying for a miracle, something great to happen. And I’ve seen those miracles happen time and time again.”
The $3 million donation is part of the Why Not You Foundation, which Wilson established in 2014. He recounted, “My dad used to always say, ‘Son, why not you?’ It kind of became the mantra of my life.” Both he and Ciara chose this phrase to honor their parents, who fostered a similar ethos in them.
Just six weeks before announcing the Mount Sinai donation, Wilson revealed on Instagram that the foundation had raised over $21 million to support initiatives focused on education, children’s health, and poverty alleviation. A portion of these funds was also allocated to The V Foundation for Cancer Research.
Ciara, a key figure in the foundation’s efforts, recently attended an event at St. Peter’s Church in Atlanta where she pledged an additional $2 million to combat food insecurity.
Reflecting on the impact of their donation, Wilson told GMA, “I want [the kids] to be inspired, and I want them to take their mind a little bit off of the pain they’re going through.” He added, “It’s probably been the greatest thing I’ve been able to do in my career so far. It’s better than any touchdown or any trophy.”
