Running Point and Beef Come Back to Netflix: A Look at Their Mixed Reception
Two prominent series on Netflix, Beef and Running Point, have returned this month, but audience engagement has been underwhelming. Both shows recently premiered their second seasons, yet initial viewership figures indicate a decline.
In its first full week since debuting on April 16, Beef garnered 4.1 million views, securing a position at No. 3 on the global English TV Top 10 from April 20 to 26. This represented a 70% increase from its debut weekend. However, the overall numbers still suggest room for improvement.
The second season opened with just over 2 million views in the first four days, marking a nearly 60% drop compared to the premiere weekend of Season 1, which recorded approximately 5.8 million views within the same timeframe and peaked at 12 million views the following week. This trend reflects a significant audience decline that may prove challenging to reverse.

Running Point has faced similar difficulties. Its second season racked up 5.3 million views during its opening weekend, a 43% decline from Season 1’s 9.3 million views in the same period. While this performance secured a second-place ranking on the English TV list, it fell short of the leading series, the British psychological thriller Unchosen, which attracted 10.4 million views.
These trends are not unique to these shows; a growing number of Netflix’s popular series are experiencing challenges in maintaining their audiences across seasons. For instance, Bridgerton saw a decline in viewership for Season 4, while The Witcher and Nobody Wants This also faced reduced audience numbers in their recent returns. Notably, The Night Agent struggled to replicate its earlier success, with Season 3 losing 40% of its opening audience compared to Season 2.
While small audience declines are typical for most series across network TV and streaming platforms, reductions of 40-60% raise concerns. Currently, neither Beef nor Running Point has been confirmed for a third season. In contrast, Stranger Things: Tales From ’85 achieved a renewal on Tuesday, following a successful first weekend that generated 2.8 million views, placing it at No. 7 on the English TV list.
